In the preliminary examination questions on general knowledge and aptitude of the candidate, candidate's power of expression, flair in English, knowledge of objective type legal problems and their solutions covering Constitution of India, Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Indian Penal Code, Contract Act, Partnership Act, principles governing Arbitration Law, Evidence Act, Specific Relief Act and Limitation Act.
MAINS EXAMINATION:
The Main Examination (written) will comprise of four papers on the following subjects and each subject will carry maximum marks below:

Notes:
(a) Only bare copies of Legislative Enactments will be supplied.
(b) Each written paper shall be of three hours duration. Papers I to Ill shall carry 200 marks each. Papers IV and V shall carry 50 marks each and in each of these papers 100 marks shall be for essay writing and 50 marks for general language and grammar. Paper VI shall carry 100 marks.
(c) The Viva-Voce shall relate to matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidates alertness, intelligence and general outlook. Consideration shall be paid to the bearing of the candidates. It shall be conducted in English.
No candidate shall be credited with any marks in any paper unless he obtains atleast thirty three percent marks in it.
No candidate shall be called for the Viva-Voce test unless he obtains atleast fifty percent qualifying marks in the aggregate of all the written papers. Provided that the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes of Pb./Scheduled Tribes of Punjab and Backward Classes of Pb. Categories shall be called for the Viva-Voce test if they obtain forty-five percent qualifying marks in the aggregate of all written papers.
UTTAR PRADESH JUDICIARY SYLLABUS
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
LAW - (300 marks): (2 hrs)

This part will consist of Indian history and Indian culture, Indian geography, Indian politics, current national affairs, India and world, Indian economics, International affairs, International organisations, science and technology, Information technology and space etc.
MAINS EXAMINATION
Paper No.:1 General Knowledge M.M.200
This paper may include questions based on topics relating to History of India and Indian Culture, Geography of India, Indian Polity, Current National Issues and topics of Social relevance, India and the World, Indian Economy, International Affairs and Institutions and development in the field of Science and Technology Communications and Space.
The nature and standards of questions in this paper will be such that a well educated person will be able to answer them without any specialized study.
Paper No.2 Language:
This paper will be of 200 marks. It shall comprise four question as specified below:
(i) Essay to be written in English - 60 marks
(ii) English Précis writing - 60 marks
(iii) Translation of passage from Hindi to English - 40 marks
(iv) Translation of Passage from English to Hindi - 40 marks
Paper No. 3 Law-I (Substantive Law):
This paper will be of 200 marks. The question set will be restricted to the field covered by:- The law of contracts, the law of Partnership, the law concerning easements and torts, the Law relating to transfer of property including the principles of equity, specifically applicable thereto, the principal of Equity with special reference to the Law of trust and specific relief, Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law, and Constitutional Law. There shall be questions of 50 marks in relation to Constitutional Law alone.
Paper No.4 Law-II (Procedure and Evidence):
This paper will be of 200 marks.
Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by-the law of evidence, the Criminal Procedure Code and Code of Civil Procedure, including the principles of pleading. The question set will relate mainly to practical matters such as the framing of charges and issues the methods of dealing with the evidence of witnesses the writing of judgment and the conduct of cases generally but will not be restricted to them.
Paper No.5 Law-III (Penal, Revenue and Local Laws):
This paper will be of 200 marks.
Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by-Indian Penal Code, the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land reforms Act 1951, Uttar Pradesh, Urban Buildings (Regulation of Letting, Rent and Eviction) Act, 1972, Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act, U.P. Panchayat Raj Act, U.P. Consolidation of Holding Act, 1953, Uttar Pradesh Urban (Planning and Development) Act 1973, together with rules framed under the aforesaid Acts.
Answer to the questions of Local Laws will be compulsory Questions pertaining to Penal Law will be of 50 marks, whereas, that of Revenue and Local Laws will be of 150 marks.
Interview: The interview will be of 100 marks. The suitability of candidates for employment in the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service will be tested with reference to his merit giving due regard to his ability character, personality and physique.
Clarification: The candidates will have a choice to answer General Knowledge and Law papers either in Hindi or in English.
Note: (i) The marks obtained in the interview will be added to the Marks obtained in the written papers and the candidates place will depend on the aggregate of both (ii) The Commission reserves the right to refuse to call for Interview any candidate who has not obtained such marks in the Law Papers as to justify such refusal.

HIMACHAL PRADESH JUDICIARY SYLLABUS
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
The preliminary examination shall be an objective type examination consisting of the following three papers of 100 Marks each:

Each paper shall be of one-hour duration and the examination in all the three papers shall be held on the same day. The syllabus for the preliminary examination shall be the same as provided for Paper -Ito III for the Main examination.

The Competitive examination for recruitment in the Civil Judge Cadre shall consist of:-

III. Interview:
In Interviewing a candidate, the suitability for employment to the service shall be tested with reference to his record at the school, College and University, and his character, personality, address and physique. The questions, which may be put to him, may be of a general nature and will not necessarily be academic or legal. The candidate will also be put questions to test his general knowledge including knowledge of current affairs and present-day problems. Marks shall also be awarded for the candidate's proficiency in the Rajasthani dialects and his knowledge of social customs of Rajasthan. The marks so awarded shall be added to the marks obtained in the written test by each candidate.
LIST OF CANDIDATES
After interview, a list of the candidates shall be prepared in the order of their performance on the basic of their aggregate marks. If two or more of such candidates obtain equal marks in the aggregate, they shall be arranged in the order of merit on the basis of their general suitability for service and their names shall be recommended for appointment accordingly:
Provided that a candidate of Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes category shall not be recommended for appointment unless he obtains minimum 35% marks in the aggregate of written examination and the interview and in the case of other candidates, unless he obtained minimum 40% marks in the aggregate of written examination and the interview;
NOTE
The general suitability for service of the candidates securing equal aggregate marks in Main Examination and Interview shall firstly by determined on the basis of higher marks obtained in the Interview the merit shall be determined having regard to age i.e. the candidate, order in age shall be given higher place in merit.

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION (ELIMINATION TEST)

ANDHRA PRADESH STATE JUDICIARY SYLLABUS
The process of selection shall comprise of
The candidates who secure 40% and above marks in the screening test will be shot listed in the ratio of 1:10 of the available vacancies, for written examination.
The marks obtained in the screening test shall not be added to the marks obtained in the written examination and they shall not be counted for determining final order of merit of the candidates, as the screening test is conducted for the purpose of short listing the candidates.
iii) English Translation test for 30 marks and Essay writing test for 70 marks. (Translation has to be made from English language to Hindi or Telgu language only and essay-writing test will be on legal subject only).
Each paper shall carry 100 marks. The duration of each paper is three (3) hours.
The candidates applying under Direct Recruitment who belong to OC category must secure not less than 60% of marks in aggregate in the written examination to become eligible for Viva-Voce.
The candidates belonging to Backward Class category under Direct Recruitment must secure not less than 50% marks in each paper and not less than 55% of marks in aggregate in the written examination for calling for Viva-Voce.
The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes ad Scheduled Tribes category must secure not less than 45% marks in each paper and not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in the written exanimation for calling for Viva-Voce.
The candidate belonging to OC and BC categories applying under Recruitment by Transfer must secure not less than 55% marks in each paper and not less than 60% marks in aggregate in the written examination to become eligible for Viva-Voce.
The candidates belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled Tribe categories applying under Recruitment by Transfer must secure not less than 45% marks in each paper and not less than 50% marks in aggregate in the written examination to qualify for Viva-Voce.
Viva-Voce
Viva-Voce, shall carry 50 marks. Any candidate who remains absent for the Viva-Voce for the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) shall be deemed to have been disqualified for selection. (The object of Viva-Voce is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the cadre by judging the mental alertness, knowledge, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth and the like of the candidate.)
Minimum aggregate Marks to be secured in the written Examination and Viva-Voce for selection to the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) :
For selection to the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) under Direct Recruitment and Recruitment by Transfer, the OC/BC category candidates must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in written Examination and Viva-Voce and SC/ST category candidates must secure at least 50% marks in aggregate in written examination and Viva-Voce. (Candidates who secure less than the said percentage will become ineligible for selection to the post.
The Questions in the examinations shall be answered only in English (except translation test)

N.B.: The Commission shall call the eligible candidates for main written examination who have secured not less than 35 (thirty-five) per-centum of marks in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and 40 (forty) per-centum of marks in case of others in the preliminary written examination.
The main written examination shall be on the following two compulsory papers and three optional papers. Each of the compulsory subjects shall carry 150 marks with a duration of 242 (two and half) hours and each of the optional subjects shall carry 150 marks with a duration of three hours.

N.B.: For "Translation and retranslation of ten lines each", there will be two passages, i.e. one in English to be translated into Odia and another in Odia to be retranslated into English.

NOTE :
(a) A candidate shall answer the papers in English unless otherwised directed.
(b) The standard of papers shall be that of LL.B. course and in respect of compulsory Paper-I, it shall be that of a degree course.
(c) The Commission shall call the candidates for interview who have secured not less than 45 (forty five) per-centum of marks in aggregate and a minimum of 33 (thirty three) per-centum of marks in each paper in the main written examination.
(d) (1) The optional subjects for the main written examination are mentioned below:

(b) the optional subjects for the main written examination, mentioned by the candidate in the online application form, will be treated as final. No request for change of Optional Subject(s) will be entertained.
(c) The candidates shall be allowed to appear at the main written examination with the optional subjects as mentioned in the online application form.
Provided that the names of the candidates shall not be included in the merit list unless such candidates secure a minimum of 40% (forty per-centum) of marks in the interview.
